Went up to the River Devon on Saturday for a few hours, as much to get a bit of a cast and a walk at the same time. Had not been out all week with the Manflu being prevalent in my space!

I was sort of expecting it to be chocolate brown but it was gin clear and a lot lower than my last outing here so starting about halfway along the beat where I fished last time and working a bit further upstream I had a nice few hours.

I seen few fish rise and most I did see, seemed fairly small, but I managed to raise a few small Browns on the dry fly, a Deer hair Comparadun pattern.

I had three up to maybe 6 ozs and missed another which I would reckon would’ve been a better sized fish- not enormous,  it rolled on the fly and while I think I might have nicked it I never hooked up to – it seemed to top and tail on the fly very quickly.

I found some deeper pools above a rickety road bridge and fished these through with a nymph under a Stimulator, there were definitely a few fish about here- again not big but I failed to raise much interest, though one darted past me inthe shallow sandy bottomed part of the stream.

A nice afternoon out and nice to get some fresh air to be honest. Only thing that spoils this river is the litter left by mindless arseholes. I always seem to come across discarded barbeques, remains of fires and discarded mono or hook packets.

Such a shame in what could be a cracking wee stream.
