I had my first afternoon up at Cocksburn Reservoir this season, yesterday. I have not been up mainly because it’s been so cold and it being quite high it is fairly exposed at the best of times. That in turn can lead to a dour experience with the sulking Brown Trout.

I was in two minds to go fishing today ( Sunday) when I went to bed on Satrurday, but the weather while looking decidedly milder wasn’t looking particularly settled and my weather app at least suggested it might be a bit of a wet and miserable day. Between freezing cold, bright sunny days with no heat to speak of or deluges of rain, hail and actual snow and a total lack of anything approaching warmth for 99% of the time, this Spring is eminently forgettable, I am sure you will agree.

As we daundered out into the water, on boat 13 ( lucky for some) and having foolishly been saying to Douglas and Bill that while I have never found Lake of Menteith a particularly easy venue, it was getting now that I was catching on most visits…..talk about setting yourself up for a fall!
