This though finished my time with the Wotsit, yes it works but I can’t say I enjoyed fishing it and deep hooking isn’t something I want to be doing when fishing C&R.

It’s a call out weekend so fishing choices are limited by phone and pager. I went up to Pendreich on what looked like a perfect fishing afternoon. Breezy enough to create a little wave, bright but not glaringly so, and reasonably warm but not roasting. Surely the fish would be on the top and feeding.

I knew I was in trouble as I pulled up in the car park with no one on the small ponds and not a single fish showing. I decided on a 2 hour permit on the main loch and tackled up. Speaking to a few anglers it was clear that it was not going to be easy. One chap had been there “all day” and had two fish to show for it plus a few small browns in the evening. It seemed everyone else was blanking (not that it was busy).
