Another in my series of two-minute tips. This focuses on using straight-through leaders. A single length of nylon or fluorocarbon for your leader or tippet, and tying your droppers on separately using the same or lighter line. While aimed in my example primarily for nymphing the same method works just as well on conventional three fly leaders used for Loch style fishing. (It is especially good for Buzzer fishing where you want a lighter material to present the buzzer more naturally)

The trade-off perhaps is that some buzzer takes can be savage and a lighter material might not withstand the shock loading. In nymphing where you want to roll nymphs along the river bottom the lighter droppers in straight-through leaders mean that any snags you lose the dropper before you lose your entire cast of flies.

You are not compelled to use lighter droppers, you can use the same material and simply take advantage that your main leader has no join in it.
