When old is better than new

One of the reasons I have always disliked tying this fly ( easy though it is) is the use of silver tinsel as the body rib. I often resort to silver wire as the oval tinsel you get these days is frankly crap. I find I invariably manage to strip the coating off it, as it seems to be some sort of fine thread “coated” with a tinsel skin.

In the Eye of the Storm

It really was uncomfortably hot in the Eye of the Storm today and yet strangely damp- my fly box lying out by my bag was soaking wet, with what could only have been the humidity. My sunglasses too kept steaming up!

Tenuous Roman Connections

Another cast and this time a fairly hesitant pull that I wasn’t really sure was connected to a fish, though I tightened in all the same and yes, a fish was on. This was where things were very odd- certainly, I haven’t seen anything like this before. So the fish was out on quite a long line and I was pulling it in by hand, it was not as big a Brown Trout as the first.
