Using the very direct method of feeling for takes, bugging, using braid instead of fly line or a long ( French Leader) has been around for a while but seems to be getting popular just now. I was asked about this from a few quarters, and while it is not a method I use much I have done it in the past so made another wee video explaining the method a little. I am sure there are other ways to achieve the same thing.
For the main line simply use something like 20lb fly line backing, and to this attach a short length of 8lb fireline, braid. From the end of this tie on your tippet material as usual. This is a feel method, as with heavy bugs on the end you will feel the tapping of the flies on the river bed and hopefully those takes too.
The method does not employ an indicator however should you still want one I recommend using indicator wax so you needn’t “soften” the set up inserting some stretchy monofiliament
