While having proper kick sampling gear, like wide seine nets and trays and test tubes are the ideal, it’s not always practical or even desireable to be lugging all this extra gear around on the river.
With a little sheet of suitable netting and with things you will be carrying anyway you can acheive the same thing.
If you do end up chopping up old drinks bottles, always remove your litter from the river bank when you are done.
The netting I bought was on ebay but came from Norfine Nets and is on this page.
A more Robust solution
Carrying a rolled up length in your pocket enough to wrap round your fishing net is perfectly adequate for most outings. If however, you want a bigger more robust solution, buy a brush handle, chop it through the middle and fix the netting between the two dowels. Works really well but is not so good for carrying about. It is fine if your car is by the river bank and you want to do a sample then leave the equipment in the car afterwards.
