A “Fathers Day fishing Trip” has been a long time coming with the pandemic, but my son sent me a Fathers Day card and told me he owed me two outings. Dawn Patrol

It was something of a surprise therefore yesterday morning, when I was up very early with the intention of seeing a “near” summer solstice dawn in on the water. As I exited the door of the warm house without a jacket on to put some bits and pieces in the car, (it was only 03:55 but it was more or less daylight), I had a sharp intake of breath as it was very cold. A rapid retreat saw me back in the house to grab my thermal jacket. The car thermometer read 7Centigrade but it felt even colder as there was a breeze that would half you in two.

Nowt, odder than trout

It is the first evening that the weather seemed anywhere at all near spring-like. By that I mean it was light until after 10 pm and you weren’t at risk of death from exposure if not wearing several layers of technical under clothes.

Days like these

I had my first afternoon up at Cocksburn Reservoir this season, yesterday. I have not been up mainly because it’s been so cold and it being quite high it is fairly exposed at the best of times. That in turn can lead to a dour experience with the sulking Brown Trout.
