Several seasons ago, probably eight….where has the time gone? I got a Lamington and District Angling Improvement Association season ticket. I think it was a winter ticket for Grayling. Though I fished the Clyde a few times that year, the weather was particularly cold, and the fishing brutally hard and I never actually made it on to any of the LDAIA water.

Newton Farm Trout Fishery is a small stillwater, just to the south of the village or Wormit on the southside of the Tay Estuary. It has gin clear water and an average depth of around 6 metres.

I headed to my regular parking spot for this section and I was astonished how many other vehicles were there. There must have been 5 cars parked up. Usually, there might be one here already ( if any), five had me wondering if I would find anywhere to fish. I needn’t have fretted though ( is it just me that gets weird about finding my own space when fishing?), one chap left while I was gearing up, I didn’t see where he came from ( up or downstream) but I did notice he looked like he was moving elsewhere, as he drove off fully kitted. A bad sign maybe?
