Decided to head off down the Tweed today for a final day of fishing for the Lady of the Stream- the Grayling. There is no formal Grayling open or closed season in Scotland- unlike England, but the Peebleshire Trout Fishing Association request not targetting them from 1st April through to end of June, their breeding season. The Trout fishing does not start formally on the Tweed until 1st April either.

Had a few hours to spare Saturday afternoon while providing “Dad’s Taxi” service to our son who was going out with his mates for a few hours in the afternoon. As I was also on call (for work) going anywhere to fish where its going to cost me is strictly out of the question- my pager would go as soon as I wet a line. So I popped up to Cocksburn Reservoir (Pendriech) at the back of Bridge of Allan to fish the club water for a few hours.

Ironically on the last weekend before the opening of the official Brown Trout season and I think (other than call out weekends) it’s my first non angling weekend this year. Weather has been dreadful- we had high winds up to the weekend then snow pretty well all day Saturday, it only let up to rain, and today has been very wet as well.

It wasn’t the brightest warmest or most springlike day that greeted us on Saturday morning at Swanswater- but at least it wasn’t chucking it down with rain or blowing a gale as it so easily can do at this time in the (pre) season.

I went up to Swanswater this afternoon for a wee recce session prior to the Troutmasters fish off tomorrow. Was not a bad day though a bit of a nasty crosswind kept casting tricky for long periods. When the sun came out though it was very Spring like.
