I went up to Swanswater this afternoon for a wee recce session prior to the Troutmasters fish off tomorrow. Was not a bad day though a bit of a nasty crosswind kept casting tricky for long periods. When the sun came out though it was very Spring like.
But the fishing was very hard. Again today it was a case of trying to locate the fish and those that were being caught were around the dam area.
I tried a variety of methods and all I managed to get was one wild Brown Trout and a couple of small but scrappy Perch all on a red buzzer fished under a dry fly. As a method it works really well just I wasn’t locating the bigger fish. All I can say in my defence is that there were others fairing poorly and unless you were able to spend some reasonable time near the dam wall you were going to struggle.
The final is tomorrow, if I have peaked early looks like tomorrow could be grim!
