This is the upper limit for Salmon and Sea Trout angling on this gin clear spate river, above here you can currently fish for wild Brown Trout without a permit.

Loch Laro is a tricky place to fish. It’s very exposed and when there is any sort of easterly wind, you can struggle. A very slight breeze down in Strath Shin, can be a howling gale at Laro. Not what you want after a stiff half hour hike over the hill to the water.

Up in the north on holiday and as part of the rental of the cottage we have, we have access to Loch Laro roughly a forty minute hike away.

So far been up to Pendriech twice this week as the weather has been so nice. I am dying to go river fishing but its a non-starter while I am on call, so it’s my best option for now.

I went for a wander up the hills to have a look and a wee cast over the second of the two lochs I have access to on a local estate. Never been up this far up the hill and when I got there imagine my surprise when I found it, I would guess, over half empty! It looked like the surface of the moon (if you ignored the water- which then I guess made it resemble a gravel pit).
