River Tweed Grayling Outing : Full report

I was fishing the Peebleshire Trout Fishing Association waters at Walkerburn, and I never had a lot of success. The section is easy to access and you can park adjacent to the bridge on the North bank. The water was crystal clear and not too cold and I really thought I was in for a chance. There were a couple of Herons about and the lower part of the run I fished was moving with Salmon. Weather was fair initially but a sharp downstream wind got up at the back of lunchtime which made casting a bit difficult with heavy bugs, and then the rain came on for a good wee while too.

Swanswater: Birthday fishing weekend

Swanswater is my “local” for want of a better name. I can literally walk there in about 40 minutes and while I have been relearning fly fishing in the latter half of 2010, it was my venue of choice.I have to say I enjoy it there especially the smaller ponds. The big loch can be variable and can go very dour. It’s definitely a place not to become to fixated on one fly, one technique or one location.I went up Saturday for a 4 hour session- arriving just before 12 to get the best of the day through to close around 16:00. As it turned out they are now open to 16:30 and on a day like Saturday, it was still quite light even then.

I decided to get my 2011 year off to a flier by heading off down Crawford way a couple of days before Hogmanay! ( just of the M74 for non locals, south of Abington) to fish the stretch from the very upper limit of UCAPA water at the Telford Bridge.
