I was going to fish along the nearside of the smaller pond as no one was there. I went and got my ticket and wouldn’t you know it? but an angler from the main loch had started fishing adjacent to where I wanted to fish, casting right in toward the peg I was going to fish. (it’s on a corner).

I managed a couple of 4 hour sessions on some local rainbow trout fisheries this week. I wasn’t desperate to go but as my likely opportunities to fish might be limited as this winter wears on I thought I should not look a gift horse in the mouth, and get out. A lot of what fishing is about for me, is just getting out doors and just now this sort of time is at a premium.

It was bright and reasonably mild for the time of year but pretty breezy when I arrived. Though the wind was blowing off the dam wall I decided to fish the north bank which was tricky but not totally unmanageable.

It’s been quiet here on the fishing reports front, primarily for the rather obvious reason that I have not been out fishing. My last outing at Butterstone Loch took me a few days to get over with this bloody arthritic problem I have and since then the weather has been rubbish for one thing and my condition worsened to the point where I was struggling to walk more than a few dozen yards before needing to stop and take the weight off my hip.

It was the SCAC club day at Butterstone yesterday. Weather conditions started very like my previous visit with very bright sunshine and little breeze. Good for casting but probably not so good for fishing. The water too was rather murky looking, though close in it looked clear enough.
