I originally found a fly like this when out fishing a while ago, and late last year while targetting Golden Trout decided to give it a go when nothing was working. It worked, catching me Golds and Rainbows.
A week or so later I hooked 7 fish in 8 casts, to say it was successful is an understatement.
As I only had one I thought I better work out how to tie one myself.
As far as what it’s called, I have one mate that called it a “Sparkler” but I call a different fly that, it looks for all the world like something that would hang happily on your Christmas Tree so I do loosely refer to it as such, but shape wise its kind of like a Damsel, who cares? The fish don’t!
I have tried some different materials to replicate the now shredded original, and this seems to come closest with again devastating results when I tried it at Orchill recently.
