I knew I was in trouble as I pulled up in the car park with no one on the small ponds and not a single fish showing. I decided on a 2 hour permit on the main loch and tackled up. Speaking to a few anglers it was clear that it was not going to be easy. One chap had been there “all day” and had two fish to show for it plus a few small browns in the evening. If you read this blog at all regularly or indeed you find yourself browsing through the tales of my angling trips you may have stumbled over the story of when I went up the wee burn, and lost the fly that was catching me the fish on a strategically placed bush on the other side of the stream. Not having waders on I could not recover it but on a later trip I went back, got said fly and continued to catch on it.

A visit to a new place for me today, Linlithgow Loch- you can read more about the actual place on my fishery reviews page which will be up about the same time as this post.
It was reported on the radio as I buzzed over to Linlithgow that the weather was to dry up mid-morning for a settled afternoon, in the usually reliable Met Office fashion it rained all morning and right through to about three in the afternoon. Not torrential or driving rain, just that all-encompassing drizzly rain that seems to saturate everything.

I bought a EA fishing licence at the start of the season, though of course living in Gods own land I don’t actually need one. However I thought that I might end up in Wales sometime over the summer, and also I travel a lot for work so having the option to thrash the water seemed attractive.

Was a cracking day yesterday and having the day off was keen to get out for a few hours. I took a run up to Pendriech but it was pretty busy (by its standards) and the wind was blowing right into the dam end. As the most easily fished area was going to be the south bank and most of the anglers were already there I decided to cut my losses and head elsewhere. So I waited a few hours and went up to Swanswater to catch the last of the sun’s rays and hopefully get the evening rise (if there was one).
