East wind that blows no good: well some!

I was itching to get out yesterday evening, was a cracking day and as the weekend is likely to be blown out got to make the most of opportunities. However, the wind is currently Easterly and that’s not good for fishing up at Pendreich. Aside from the wind, I thought it might be busy with so many on holiday just now. I took a run up mid-afternoon and was surprised there was no one there, though seeing the waves coming across the loch and the wind slamming into the Dam wall, maybe I should not have been.

An Old Firm hat-trick

Well, it’s not gone unnoticed by me that if you want to go fishing at a weekend AND have somewhere to yourself, you can’t do much better than the day of an Old Firm derby, if you live anywhere in the central belt of Scotland. ( I suppose it might be a wee bit different in the East round Edinburgh) but certainly where I am and I would guess more so Glasgow, days when there is a Rangers v Celtic derby on means quiet waters.

Great day on Pendreich

I went to my club water today and though it was a gorgeous morning it was not that warm. Not cold either but needed a fleece on most of the day.There was not much activity which surprised me and so I fished some nymph and buzzers initially- a black buzzer on point, a PTN on the middle dropper and a red holo Diawl Bach on top. Nothing.

A different place

I found out about a place not too far from home where there were reputedly Brown trout, my own investigation led me to believe there were indeed and after a few phone calls and emails I managed to get permission to fish the loch occasionally. It’s not a privilege I would abuse and its strictly Catch and release on my part as I only want to use the place as somewhere I can go for a short time, practice a bit casting and who knows, to catch and return the odd fish.

Day of the Lizard

The boat would be fine though fishing along the East bank so decided to get kitted up and give it a go.

As I was kitting up I spotted a Lizard scampering across the gravel of the car parking area. A Lizard?! Surely not.
