But what about CDC? CDC floats well and repels water naturally, up to a point. Eventually, though it does waterlog and if you catch a fish not only is it full of water but it has a coating of fish slime too. When I got up there it was evident there is still a LOT of water coming down off the higher ground and it was very peat stained. Right away I was thinking this might be a bit of a dead loss. I think I have encountered high water here once before and it was very hard to find a fish, in fact, that time I think I blanked which is unusual on the burn.

The longest day arrived and it was about as close to wall to wall sunshine as these days get to be honest. Many years recently, the longest day is marked by rain clouds and no inkling that the sun has either risen or set! I had de-greased my tippet but it was evident to me in the mirror flat calm that even the smallest indication of line on the surface was putting the fish off, a trout rose right for my midge and at the last second refused. All I could tell was I could see about an inch of tippet on the water where it lead to the fly.
