If you are a bit of a Blackadder fan you will understand the title.
Out a wee walk with the missus and the dog last night and went up to one of the private lochs I have permission to fish occasionally.
Was quite surprised to find it has had the water level lowered, not sure why. It was a really nice evening though still as you like and actually warm- surprising as its been windy and cold all day.
I took a rod and a few flies with me on the off chance of a 20-minute cast over any fish, but few were making themselves known. My wife fancies a go at the fishing too now, so took the fly off and we had 20 mins of impromptu casting lessons. I am a shite teacher of casting though I think.
I kept hearing a fish rise but could not see it in front of me then caught site of a small group of receding rings out from the far bank of the small bay we were on. I retied the fly on and cast out as far as I could. Nothing, a little further right, and a gentle slurp and the fish was on.
What a strong fish! it felt like over a pound but was only about half a pound or so, a cracking wee Brown trout. We quickly netted it, removed the barbless sedge pattern and recovered and released him then time to walk back to the motor, just as the fish looked to be starting a late rise. Great fun… I seem to be a fish magnet just now- it won’t last!
