Had my first outing of the year on the wee burn today, thinking it looked quite nice and there would be some reasonable height of water with recent rains. While the later judgement was correct, the former was miles out, it was really very cold, especially given we are nearly into May.
I had only been fishing a matter of ten minutes when it came on heavy rain, soon changing to icy hail. I started on the French leader ( with my 3# rod) with a couple of nymphs and despite changing flies a few times never had any interest shown. In fact considering the miles I covered and the changes of patterns and techniques, I never saw a single fish move all day, nor did a single fish move for a fly.

Sad to say it was the first blank I have suffered on the burn I am wondering where all the fish have gone. There was plenty of fly life on the water, some big upwings too and it was nice to be out and get a nice walk, even if it was cold enough to see your breath!
