I had de-greased my tippet but it was evident to me in the mirror flat calm that even the smallest indication of line on the surface was putting the fish off, a trout rose right for my midge and at the last second refused. All I could tell was I could see about an inch of tippet on the water where it lead to the fly.

I had my first afternoon at Loch Coulter today, and while catching fish is always the desired outcome of any fishing trip, today it wasn’t my primary objective. Today it was about fly lines and what works with my two main Stillwater rods, my Daiwa New Era 9ft 6″ 6# and 9ft 5#.
