The River Annan is sourced in the Hills to the North of Moffat and from there meanders down over 35 miles of the rolling South Western Scotland area to the Solway firth at Annan town. The Annan has runs of migratory fish, Atlantic Salmon and Sea Trout as well as being home to Brown Trout and Grayling.

I was thinking, back down the Clyde at Lamington again ( a bit of a drive), maybe the Earn ( though might be busy with Salmon anglers given recent high water), or an explore into areas I have less experience of, on the River Devon. On Sunday evening the decision was made. Carron Valley Reservoir!

When I got up there it was evident there is still a LOT of water coming down off the higher ground and it was very peat stained. Right away I was thinking this might be a bit of a dead loss. I think I have encountered high water here once before and it was very hard to find a fish, in fact, that time I think I blanked which is unusual on the burn.

Several seasons ago, probably eight….where has the time gone? I got a Lamington and District Angling Improvement Association season ticket. I think it was a winter ticket for Grayling. Though I fished the Clyde a few times that year, the weather was particularly cold, and the fishing brutally hard and I never actually made it on to any of the LDAIA water.
