In fact there was but it was mostly small trout and despite the abundance of flies on the water, from midges to very large Mayflies of some sort, I could not get any real idea of what they were taking.

Had my first outing of the year on the wee burn today, thinking it looked quite nice and there would be some reasonable height of water with recent rains. While the later judgement was correct, the former was miles out, it was really very cold, especially given we are nearly into May.

Saturday was the Annan Fishery Board, Grayling fishing day. The day is set up as a survey of the river primarily for Sea Trout but also other species, and anglers are offered fishing on one of a number of beats in return for a donation to the Celtic Sea Trout survey.
