On my week off I wanted to fish a few places I either hadn’t fished before or hadn’t been for a while. Glenbervie fishery out on the way to Larbert is somewhere I pass on my regular trips to hospital and always think, I need to go there for a wee fish sometime,as its been a few years isnce I was last there. On arriving its clear the fishery has matured somewhat and looks to be very well kept with the flower bed and signage at the new entrance. Car Parking now is at the top of the access road as there is ahouse being built at the rear of the fishery and the old parking area is being used by the builders. I see there are new wrought iron gates here too now also.
The fishery was pretty quiet with more anglers being on the bait pond than on the fly pond. I purchased my 4hour C&R ticket for £10 and the lady owner ( I beleive her name is Marika) offered me a coffee or tea before I started. After a brief chat about conditions and how it was fishing I went to get a net and get started. My first 30-45 minutes were somewhat frustrating. I started on a yellow owl style dry, then moved onto a tiny black spider, and then a size 18 Parachute Adams. I was consistently rising fish, in fact had I hooked and landed every fish that swirled at my flies I would have racked up over a dozen fish in 20 minutes! Not one connected and I was wondering what was needed to get a take.One other angler on the pond I seen caught a fish on a lure and I beleive that was his second. One departing angler told me he hadn’t seen any other fish caught in the fly pond that day, so I realised it was going to be hard, but was determined to press on with the dries, as fish were rising continually while the sun was behind the clouds.
