So I decided to pop over to Swanswater for the last two fishing hours of the day to wind up a working week. It was a gorgeous evening not a breath of wind and actually warm. I was just up for having a cast over the small ponds and they were pleasingly quiet.
I decided to fish the meadow pond and initially there were no signs of life. But soon a few fish started to move. I had decided to start with a PTN and a godhead bloodworm buzzer on point. Nothing doing. A few anglers returning from the main Loch stopped to talk and were saying it has been a tough day. Some had fished all day and never touched a fish. Those that had been taken were on Damsels and Yellow Dancers.
I managed to lose my point fly up a tree that I have never caught when casting before so I know my distance is improving! So put on a dancer for 5 minutes but again nothing.
A few fish were rising now on the other side so I decided to move. As I moved around another angler came from nowhere and took the spot I was heading to! Bugger!
And so it began. I tried fly after fly and caught nothing, dries, hoppers, Klinkhammers, Damsels, shuttle cock buzzers. Nothing. Meanwhile my new best friend beside me was pulling them out , 3 in about 20 minutes. Even when I moved over I never touched a thing. 4 times fish rose to my flies but whatever they were doing they weren’t touching the fly.
So I left dejected after my 2 hours. A stunning if tough night!
