Went up to Pendreich this afternoon for a couple of hours. Unusually there were a number of anglers and committee people there. Apparently there had been poachers there in the morning who took the boat then had the brass neck to both stop fishing ( spinning) and get out the boat, so the police were called. Despite there being a number of Police and dogs the wee scumbags got away!
Anyway after being related the story I went off for a couple of hours fishing. There were fish rising all over the loch and on a small brown Klinkhammer I rose a fish but it wasn’t taking. Losing the fly on some snag, I tried again, this time another fish refused and again I was snagged losing a second fly!
I moved down the bank and changed to a small (18) black midge pattern but not before I dropped one in the grass- three flies down!
First cast I connected with a fish but half way to the net it suddenly got off. The fly was fine so dried and re treated I cast a few more times where fish were rising. After about 10 minutes of this I had a rise and connected landing a cracking Brown of over a pound. It was stunningly coloured.
It was barely nicked on the tiny dry fly and swam away no problems. I carried on fishing and after another wee while rose another fish, connecting with another fish , I suspect a good sized fish, but then it felt like it came off. On pulling the line in I found I was snapped off just below the knot on my tippet connecting to the micro ring. The knot was fine but the 3.5 lb Stroft had given in. It was about half four by now and having lost 4 flies already decided to call it a day.
