I’ve been out three times this past week to Pendreich when the weather has been up to it. On Monday night it looked quite grim but though a bit dark was actually amazingly still, too still for trout fishing you might argue. I missed a solitary attempt at a take on an LTD Sedge, never felt like I touched the fish and it never came back. Could not get a show of interest right down to size 20 midges. Skunked!

Another stunning evening, so another chance for a quick hour or so at Pendreich. When I arrived not a fish was to be seen, most entertainment looked to be a photographer who looked to be taking some – ahem, glamour shots with a girl on the far side of the loch. At one stage she was up to her chest in the water wearing a somewhat flimsy dress in the lillypads. I was tempted to go round there and tell her a 27lb pike came out of there last year. The photographer might have got more “snatch” than he envisaged- if you get my drift.

When I got back from holidays, with everything unpacked and most of the day left I sloped off for a few hours to explore the River Devon. Having been away the weather where I have been was stunning and the rivers were all fairly low and clear.

So far been up to Pendriech twice this week as the weather has been so nice. I am dying to go river fishing but its a non-starter while I am on call, so it’s my best option for now.
