After 5 long months it’s finally here! The Brown Trout Season opens in Scotland on the customary date of 15th of March, and with that my club water, Pendreich. I have to say while I am sure many of my readers get a bit fed up hearing about my outings up there (there are plenty of them after all) I rarely tire of my outings there.

With the so called Indian summer apparently here, ( it’s rained at some point, everyday of it here so far )I took the opportunity to grab an afternoon off and head up to Pendreich for what will be the last time this season for me. Two anglers departing as I arrived had had no luck all morning though fish had been moving.

If you read this blog at all regularly or indeed you find yourself browsing through the tales of my angling trips you may have stumbled over the story of when I went up the wee burn, and lost the fly that was catching me the fish on a strategically placed bush on the other side of the stream. Not having waders on I could not recover it but on a later trip I went back, got said fly and continued to catch on it.

I fully expected to be on my own up there, but there was in fact another angler, fishing from the South bank to get some shelter from the wind. I rarely ever fish the South bank, its quite weedy in places and I rarely see any fish.

The plan hatching in my head Sunday morning was to get out fairly sharp after walking the dog and go somewhere different. However I then realised I had a few other tasks to get round and ended up cutting steel, up to my elbows in manky drain water, and jet washing a roof!
