It’s been a tough week, the weather has been frankly, disappointing, and I was in a mood. I needed to get out…… fishing.

I am still bound to my pager so have to be ready to return home at a moments notice.  So back to Pendreich. There were a few anglers out but precious little happening. I spoke to a chap leaving as I arrived and though he had managed to get one fish he reckoned it must have been an “unwary” one as it was somewhat dour.

There appeared to be a Southerly breeze when below the dam wall but once at the level of the loch it was clearly an easterly. If I had had my waders  ( and no pager) I would have been up to the East end as it was ideal for that but no waders, and possibly no time. I kitted up with a single dry ( the conditions suggested a dry wasn’t likely to be fruitful but , well, it’s summer and you got to try eh?)

Like Saturday as I wandered up the North bank, a fish rose so that prompted me to stop near the boat moorings and have a go there. The wind was pretty helpful though the light on the ripple made seeing the fly tricky. Nothing looked at my fly and precious little showed. I decided to move up to where I fished on Saturday on the North bank.

After a wee while on an emerger, then a sedge I went to a two fly set up of a Kate McLaren on top dropper and a tiny black wet spider on the point. I wasn’t keen on a three fly set up as the wind was a little problematic at times and I didn’t want to tempt fate and wind knots- though I still had a few duff casts requiring me to retie my leader anyway.
