Six and a half weeks. That is how long it is to the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year- after that it’s all downhill to winter. Except that outside its utterly freezing with a wind that would half you in two like one of the Gladiators in Sparticus ( the one on Sky One).
I decided to head out, today, wasn’t sure if it was one of my better decisions. Ininitally I fancied a run somewhere new, then decided I would have a go up at Pendreich, even though I know its not always great when its cold. It was surprisingly pleasant when I arrived and quiet and little wind. I had a blether with a couple of lads I spoke to a few weeks back when at Glenbervie who had enquired after joining the club and they were up there for the day. They had some touches on Buzzers but nothing landed.
I decided to fish the North bank on Snatchers initially but after a few minutes wasn’t happy with the way they were fishing so put a heavy nymph on point, but still had nothing. Fish were rising so decided to change to a Klinkhammer on top dropper with a buzzer below. This still had no effect, changing colour on both was still fruitless and I then moved onto Nymphs and buzzers, then Buzzers under a bung ( first time I have tried that up there). All drew blanks.
The wind blew up, it changed direction almost by the minute and then the rain came on , then the hail then heavy hail…. and rain. I stuck it out but in the end it was fruitless, fishless, freezing and fed up, I decided to call it a day.
And I heard it snowed somewhere in Glasgow too.
