If you read my blog a lot you will know I fish regularly at my club water Pendreich ( Cocksburn Reservoir) and have been having something of a lean spell there recently. Lean- try totally barren.
I think sometimes you start questioning are there any fish there and trying to convince yourself that poachers/ pike / anglers who eat trout , have taken all the fish, and the few left are too wary to venture out.
On my last 4 visits I have hardly seen a fish move let alone touched one. A passer by I see up there a lot, was saying the same thing- never seen a fish move in weeks.

I had hopes ( I would caution against ‘high hopes’, the fall from height can be painful) that a reasonably mild day and not over bright conditions might prove productive. When I arrived around 7:30 in the evening there was a stiff north easterly blowing up there and it wasn’t warm. The boat was out and while I never saw them catch a fish, a poly bag as they left an hour later suggested they had bagged some unfortunates. “Come to me little fishes I won’t bash your heads in”, it’s all sport!
An hour and a half and I never spotted a single fish move. And another dismal end beckoned. However the wind dropped, a glassy calm prevailed and then fish appeared. They were very spasmodic and not what I would call free rising but they are there. Unfortunately all but about two were well beyond my casting range even had I been using a heavy 7/8 weight rod and a 40+ line. I had a go at the closer two with dries but they soon vanished despite reasonable casts to cover them.

They are in there but not where you would expect at this time of year.
sorry to mislead you on friday but the poly bag was full of rubbish not fish although we had one it was caught from the bank before we got the boat,like you never seen a fish rise very quiet for weeks ,any idea when it is going to be stocked,

Re. the stocking, no idea, usually around end of May early to Mid June I think. Hopefully they just do it quietly.
There are I think plenty fish but its locating them, from what I seen last night they were all rising along a line probably twice as far out as the barrel/buoy thing, but parallel to the bank. I suspect there is a deep ledge or something there and they are sitting deep, only coming up when there is something of interest. I know its cold but its all relative and it wasn’t perticularly seasonable last year either and there were plenty caught close in. Last night the Swallows ( or whatever they are- Swifts?) were having a feeding frenzy as there were so many midges and stuff coming off the water down the shallow area near the outflow in the dam, so its not lack of insect life!
