The season seems to have raced by and the Brown Trout season is almost gone. Its almost time to forget evenings by some river or loch and content myself with the grabbed opportunities of winter fishing some of the Rainbow fisheries in the area, and getting out after the Ladies of the Stream- the Grayling.
I am a bit limited in the options of the latter round here, the River Teith is supposed to hold some stunning Grayling, but they don’t allow fishing for them in winter on the private sections, and the public sections forbid wading which is a bit pants, the Earn too had a fair head of fish but was apparently decimated last winter, I am not sure if stocks have recovered, but even then they do not allow wading.
There is the Tummel about an hour or so north, a big fast river and not one I have tried.
I do like the upper Clyde (easy wading)  though I have yet to catch a Lady there- not so much as a knock, and oddly the Tweed is about the same distance away but you would never guess it looking at a map, where I have had more success.

So things I do know are happening:

  • I might try eek out a visit to Bankhouse Fishery near Lancaster, in the next few weeks on the back of a trip to Madrid- its a long story!
  • I am going back to the Dee this year with Hywel Morgan and John Emerson for more Grayling fishing, hoping to get a free day on the river before it too.
  • I hope to get out on the Tweed with Alberto Laidlaw for a days Grayling fishing on a private beat usually restricted to Salmon angling.

Things  I hope to do:

  • Have a less harsh winter than last year!
  • Catch something BIG at a Troutmasters water so I can get into the annual fish off- somewhere!
  • Still want to visit- in no particular order:
  • Bangour, Allandale Tarn, Bowden Springs and maybe this new place near Larbert- need to find out more.
  • Catch a Grayling on the Clyde
  • Catch lots more Grayling on the Tweed than last year!
  • Have a day or two out at, Swanswater (my local), Burnhouse and Wellsfield.

So nothing to get too despondent about as the main season draws near its end, just need lots of layers, hot flasks and dry waders! Bought myself some toasty G Loomis Over trousers at the weekend so they should help at the fisheries and for boat fishing next year.
