Saturday was crap- it started drizzly, and breezy, it brightened up around lunchtime, but still wet, and only around tea time did the rain finally relent and I decided to grab the last hour before sunset and head up to Pendreich.
I fully expected to be on my own up there, but there was in fact another angler, fishing from the South bank to get some shelter from the wind. I rarely ever fish the South bank, its quite weedy in places and I rarely see any fish. Best I can claim there is one “pull” on a small Damsel once, and one missed fish on a dry during the best of our early summer- it feels a while ago now!

I could see no fish moving but as there was as I say a lot of weed it seemed my only option was a dry if I was to avoid snags. So on went the LTD Sedge – something big and bushy enough to get some attention.
Only about ten minutes in I had a rise and I hooked and landed a stunning looking silvery gold Brown of about a pound and a quarter. A very unusual looking fish and long for its weight.

He swam off Ok though and I carried on fishing for the rest of the light, a few fish showed themselves, but no interest in my fly. Can’t be disappointed with a result like that in a single hour of opportunity!
