I have been getting increasingly frustrated this last few weeks, not being able to get out fishing, since the aches and pains reached my shoulders, but last night I cracked ( and crunched and clicked). The weather has been nothing short of stunning this side of the summer and though the shoulders still feel crunchy my hands were not too bad yesterday and I decided to go and visit the club water, even if in the end I just ended up sat on the wall with my line on the water.

It was fairly busy and the wind was in to the dam wall but I was still able to get a line out against it easy enough with the 4 weight, though the fly was coming back towards me a bit more quickly than I would have liked, and early on there was nothing really moving except right out in the middle.

Someone had managed to get out in the boat, they had got a hand ( a three man lift) to use one of the skanky wee plastic boats from the boat shed to paddle out and get onto the proper boat. Good thinking if a bit labour intensive. Could really do with the boat mooring getting sorted.

Some ducks at Pendreich

Oh No! Here come the ducks!

The breeze that was rather pleasant in the heat, dropped and left the loch utterly flat, never easy for fishing and as the evening progressed the fish started to appear. They were mostly up the North bank though it was frustrating to see an angler fishing near the boat mooring casting out continually to his left when the fish were all rising about 2 rod lengths away from him on his right, and I never once see him cover them! Maybe blind in one eye or something! I seen one guy get a couple of fish in quick succession right up near the weeds at the far end of the North bank but that was it. For myself I tried an assortment of dries right down to miniscule size 20 midges and never got a look though one fish came mightily close but circled by. The closest I came to a take was a number of the young ducks that are getting big now, I was fishing a sedge pattern for a while and everytime I cast it out, the ducks would head for the fly, I really didn’t want one of them to contend with though another angler suggested they might be handy for the fly tying!

I probably spent more time chatting to others than fishing but it was nice to be out on such a pleasant night. Worth a few aches to be there.
