Friday evening, I will just mention briefly, though the forecast wasn’t brilliant, and there was a bit of a breeze, I popped along to Swanswater getting there just in time to get the last couple of hours in before dusk. There were quite a few anglers out up on the main loch but the wee ponds were deserted so I decided to set up on the Mill Pond, and have a go for one of the numerous fish that were showing all over. In a couple of hours I rose a few fish but they weren’t for touching the dry fly ( I easily tried a dozen patterns) and it wasn’t until I fished a wee bright orange terrestrial wet/dry pattern back at pace that I cottoned on to the fish chasing, and indeed I got a hook up only for the fish to throw the hook despite seeming well on. As the evening wore on and the rain once again descended in torrents, I was forced into fishing lures, hot head damsels, and small ( if you can ever say one of these is small) zonkers, pulled back Roly Poly style were getting the fish chasing and nipping but I couldn’t get a hook up at all. I think up the main loch was similar and one angler pulling an orange blob back at pace managed a three fish bag for about 18lb’s!  So  fishless and slightly frustrating evening.
