Had two very short sessions up at Pendreich this weekend, its a call out week so somewhat restricted in getting out, and the weather has been pretty pants for the time of year. The showeriness is fair enough, April showers and all that but its been freezing too, there is snow back on the hills round here- it had all vanished in February!

For a long time I have found that John Emerson’s CDC dry fly ( colloquially known as the Shit fly) has been a hugely effective fly for the Browns at Pendreich. I have bought these from John at Uniqueflies because I struggled with tying such small flies and could not get the split wing right. I bought some Semperfli Nano Silk recently and this helps hugely both in terms of how strong it is but how much easier 12/0 thread makes tying such small flies.

Had a couple of hours up at Pendreich Saturday, the weather man reported it was to be a lovely day but it was damp and misty for most of the day with a little sun eeking out later in the afternoon, though it could never be considered warm. Sub-Saharan Africa need not feel threatened by the temperature here yet then, despite the rubbish in the news.

The weather has been appalling, but I am supposed to be heading to the River Teviot on Saturday for the annual Grayling competition ( I am seriously doubting this will happen with all the rain) but needed to get some flies made up to replenish losses, and add to my arsenal.
