As its the last day of my holidays I wanted to get out. The day started fair but the wind rose and it got quite grey with low cloud over the hills above Stirling. So Pendreich was out, and my second thought of Orchill would be wet too in all probability. Not been to Burnhouse for a while and it was away from the direction of the rain so I went there for 4 hours C&R.

I was surprised to find it very quiet and blowing a total hoolie. The guy at the lodge was saying it had not been fishing well for a few days but there were plenty fish, and it seemed the few that had fell were to “Irish Cats” or a Gold head Cats Whisker to you or me!

Cats Whiskers

An Irish Cat apparently- I just call it a Gold Headed Cats Whiskers!

The wind was utterly mental blowing into the exposed North Shore, and though I gave it a go, it was too much to battle. The rod was getting waved all over the shop the wind was so strong. Over to the lee shore was easier but it seemed like the fish were well out.

To cut a long story short I managed to rise one fish on a bushy dry ( A stimulator) but missed it as I could not see it clearly in the flat light. Then I missed a further two on Buzzers under a more visible inidicator and had a few knocks but that was it. One angler was doing well on a Silver Humungous apparently but most others were having lean times. I wouldhave popped on a Humongous but for the fact I never had one in my box for some odd reason so I know I will need to tie a few for future outings just in case.
