On the principle that if you can’t beat them, join them I have tied a few Snatchers for my next outing to Pendreich. As far as I can tell these style flies are usually tied in 10-14’s but I have an excessive amount of size 16 Buzzer hooks, and being of the mindset that up at the loch, smaller is better, I have tied these in 16’s. So quite small and fiddly but compared to those Barry ties, he was using size 18 and 20’s for some of his Snatcher fishing!

Continuing on my recent attempts to have a few Traditional Wet Flies in my box for the new season I have tied a few more. Wouldn’t claim them to be brilliant but these are the best of the bunch so worth a mention here and I welcome any comments on how to improve my tying. I have to admit I probably don’t have the best winging material to hand and am not very good at getting either the shape or size of the wing either. But hopefully the fish won’t care!

The weather has been appalling, but I am supposed to be heading to the River Teviot on Saturday for the annual Grayling competition ( I am seriously doubting this will happen with all the rain) but needed to get some flies made up to replenish losses, and add to my arsenal.

The guys over on River Clyde Fishing Forum’s have been running a fun fly tying competition where the rule is any fly tied has to be made with at least one item of Christmas decorations. I guess there is plenty of scope given the preponderance of sparkly and tinselly items around at this time of year.
